Trojans fall to New Hanover 41-38

Garner drops their home matchup to #6-ranked New Hanover 41-38. The non-conference loss in the first ever meeting with the Wildcats goes to the final 36 seconds when the Trojans fail to convert on 4th & 11 at the 36. Jaydin Dixon gets the good guys on the board just 40 seconds in when he bolts 53 yards for touchdown. Jon-Anthony Johnson 19 yard TD catch from Nolan McLean puts Garner up 14-0 halfway through the opening frame. After Malik Stephens interception, McLean hooks up with Donovan Evans for 45-yard strike & 20-7 lead for the home team at the end of the 1st. Spencer Stephenson 26-yard TD catch on McLean’s 3rd TD throw gives Garner up 26-17 halftime margin. Justin Lewis 30-yard TD catch from McLean who later scores on his own 1-yard dive puts Garner up 38-30 with 7 minutes to go. New Hanover (4-0) knots it with kick return TD on the ensuring possession. The Wildcats win it with 32-yard FG with 2:21 left. McLean finishes with 259 yards and 4 TD passes, most yards since 2013 for the program. Dixon becomes the Trojans first 100 yard rusher this season, finishing with 113. Garner heads to Leesville to complete their non-conference slate next Friday.
