Trojan baseball edged at Broughton in 2016 opener

Garner falls 5-4 as Broughton gets a 2-RBI double in their last at bat on opening day 2016. Noah Kieft 6th inning go-ahead RBI and JD Kennovin 4 innings of stellar relief are Trojan highlights. Collin Pippen 2-4 with triple and excellent defense at second base.. Kieft’s sac fly scores Noah Giroux who lead off the 6th with single and was moved around by Noah Gallaspy single put the good guys on top. Ryan Wheeler gets a nod for superior work behind the plate working with starter freshman Brett Banks. Xavier Bussey lead off double in the 2nd and drove in by Giroux to open the scoring. After a Caps run in their 2nd, Jack Elliott knocks in Tyler Gillespy for 2-1 Trojan lead in the 3rd. Giroux sac fly in the 4th scores Pippen to knot the game at 3-3. Kennovin relieves Banks and records 3 scoreless innings, aided by terrific catches by Elliott and Cody Jones in the outfield. Taking a 4-3 lead on Kieft’s clutch hit into the 7th, Broughton loads the bases and produces their game-winner to drop Garner 0-1. They face the Capitals Wednesday afternoon in their home opener at Trojan Park
