Reed registers 1,000 in Trojans route at Holly Springs

Senior Alex Reed records his 1,000th career point in Garner 98-62 win at Holly Springs. Reed throws down a dunk with 2:57 left in the 3rd, part of his 20 points on the night, to become the 12th Garner player to reach the vaunted plateau and 3rd in three seasons. Marque Maultsby 22 points & dishes 8 assists, Trayvon Ferrell adds 18 & KD Burt adds 13 with 8 rebounds. Garner bolts away after the teams tie with 17 each in the 1st. Garner (7-1) races to 30 point second quarter with 59% shooting for 47-31 lead at the break ending the quarter on 10-2 run. Another big 3rd quarter, with Reed and Maultsby recording the first 12 points of the 2nd half puts the game out of reach. Coach Gray’s squad enjoys a huge 29-16 rebound margin, protecting the ball with just 5 turnovers for the game (to 9 for the Hawks.)

Reed’s milestone gives Coach Eddie Gray 1,000 point scorers in the 3 consecutive seasons, current Winston-Salem State guard Julius Barnes (2014-’15) & former Trojan, NC State commit Thomas Allen in the 2015-’16 seasons.

JV Trojans win streak reaches 50
Garner JV claims 85-61 win at Holly Springs for their 50th consecutive program win. The Trojans (8-0) win streak trails only the Lady Trojan varsity basketball team 1977-’79 who recorded 54 straight wins for the most in school history. Due to an early start, no stats to share but congrats to Coach Bloms’ on his milestone win.

JV Girls win their 3rd straight with the 65-39 win at home vs Holly Springs.
