Garner rallies for NCHSAA win over Apex

Wellington Guzman & Xavier Bussey RBI singles in the 6th give Garner 5-4 win over Apex in their NCHSAA 4A Tournament opener. Tyler Gillespy 2-RBI double and Noah Giroux RBI single stakes Brett Banks to 3-0 lead through three. Banks records 6K’s in 4 innings to keep the Cougars off the board until their 4th. Chris Roddenberry relieves after Apex 4-run 4th, recording 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Ryan Wheeler opens the critical 6th with single in his 3-for-3 day. Graham Wilkins running for Wheeler scores on Bussey RBI single to left. After Noah Gallogly single, Guzman two-out single knocks in Bussey with the game-winner. Nolan McLean, who records 4 walks at the plate, finishes up with 1.1 hitless innings for the win. The 10th straight win for the GNRC Champions (18-7), who head to second round matchup with Cardinal Gibbons, 6-1 winner over Wilmington Ashley on Friday at S.Garner Field 4:30PM first pitch.

Athletic Physical Night May 25th

GMHS will hold players meeting for the 2017 Fall football season May 25th 5:30PM followed by Sports physicals for GMHS student athletes at 6:00 p.m. The cost of the physical will be $20 per student due the evening of the physical, with all proceeds returned to the athletic program at Garner Magnet High School. (If you are paying with a check please make check payable to Garner Trojan Club.) This event is sponsored by Raleigh Orthopaedic Group, Garner Family Practice, and MyEyeDr. It will be held at loyal Trojan club supporter Raleigh Orthopaedic (Garner Office 1325 Timber Dr. East Garner, NC 27529). To receive a physical the student athlete must arrive with a completed and signed Garner High School Athletic Participation Form and GF Concussion Form. No exceptions will be made. You may download this form on our website under the athletics tab or pick up one of these forms from Mr. Guerrero’s office Room 1108 South Campus, or in the front office at Garner Magnet High School South Campus and Ninth Grade Center. Please note if you have other forms that need to be filled out, ie for Middle School, Pop Warner, Boy Scouts, Camps, etc, you must bring that form with you. We are not capable of completing these following your physical.

Garner honors 2017 Hall of Fame Class

The Trojans gathered to honor the newest Hall of Fame Class: 3-time CFL All-Star Brandon Banks (’06), US Paralympic Swim team member and 4-time medalist Tucker Dupree (’07), two-sport star and Coach Mickey Faulk (’60), and two-sport athlete and professional sports psychologist and author Dr. Shaun Tyrance (’96). In ceremonies at the Grand Marquis Ballroom, Trojan fans were treated to entertaining and humble speeches by our outstanding inductees of the 8th Trojan Hall of Fame class. The common theme certainly was their love for their school and our hometown that groomed these noteworthy athletes and citizens into the success they have achieved, during their Garner careers and beyond.

Garner claims GNRC Baseball Championship

Dylan Wheeler 6.2 innings of 4-hit pitching leads Garner to the 2017 Greater Neuse River Championship with 3-2 win at Rolesville. Garner (17-7, 11-3 in the conference) wins their 9th straight and they await their top seed in the NCHSAA 4A Playoffs which begin next week. Jackson Mitchell & Noah Gallogly RBIs gives the good guys a 2-0 cushion after 5. Wheeler kept the Rams off the board with six shutout innings allowing a mere 3 hits. Gallogly deep drive for sacrifice fly scores Tyler Gillespy for 3-0 lead headed to the 7th. Rolesville scratches out two runs in their last at bat before Nolan McLean (2-4 at the dish) relieves for the final out to earn the save and the GNRC title heads back home to Garner. Coach Derik Goffena 3rd title in five seasons & Garner qualifies for the NCHSAA State Tournament for the 13th consecutive year.

Lady Trojans fall at Rolesville
The GNRC Champions drop their final regular season game 7-4 at Rolesville, halting their 15-game win streak. Garner (18-2) will still claim the top seed in the East for next week’s NCHSAA when seeding are announced this weekend. Savannah Ridley homers for the Lady Trojans, senior captain Kira Jackson 3-4 with RBI, Ashton Harris 2-3, Haleigh Joyner adds 2-RBI double for the Lady Trojans.

Garner sweeps Senior Day wins over the Rams

Brett Banks pitches a stellar 6.1 innings with 10Ks to power Garner to the 4-3 Senior Day win over Rolesville. The Trojans (16-7) win their 8th straight to take over first in the GNRC. Garner sends the Class of 2017 with another win: Eric Rodriguez, Ryan Wheeler, Noah Giroux, Noah Gallogly and Wellington Guzman. Giroux and Nolan McLean sacrifice flies give the good guys 2-0 lead in the 4th. While Banks was cruising with 2-hitter and piling up nine strikeouts in the first 5 innings, Gallogly laces RBI single, part of his 2-for-3 day, to score Graham Wilkins for 3-0 lead. Banks improves to 5-2 on the season. Winston-Salem State signee Guzman knocks in Xavier Bussey for the eventual winning run. Chris Roddenberry relieves Banks for an out in the 7th & McLean gets the final out to elevate Garner to 10-3 and the top of the conference. The rematch for the conference title is Thursday at Rolesville 4PM.

GNRC Champion Lady Trojan softball continues their record pace with 8-3 thrashing of Rolesville on Senior Day for the Class of 2017. Outstanding senior captains Libby Bynum and Kira Jackson enjoy Garner’s 15th straight win to improve to 18-1 this season. Bynum is perfect 3-3 & Jackson goes 2-4, w/RBI on their special day concluding the home regular season. Mikayla Brumbles & Kari Sutton record RBI as the champions take advantage of 7 Rams errors. Starter Sam Weidner gets the win with 5.1 innings to stay unbeaten 7-0 and Kristina Cardenas finishes with two scoreless relief innings. Bynum and Jackson, both 4-year starters have played in 63 Trojan wins during their Garner careers. The regular season finale Thursday at Rolesville 4PM

Stephens clutch drive for Trojans 7th straight

Malik Stephens sacrifice fly in the 7th scores Gerard Chamra for 10-9 Garner win over Broughton. The win completes the March 3rd game called due to darkness but qualifies as the Trojans 7th straight win. Chamra singles to open the final frame and hustles to third on Graham Wilkins sacrifice. Stephens deep drive allows Chamra to race home. Noah Gallogly gets the win in relief for Garner (15-7) who host GNRC co-leader Rolesville Tuesday 4PM for Senior Night for the Class of 2017.

Wheeler, Giroux lead Garner to sixth straight win

Dylan Wheeler pitches four innings of 3-hit ball and Noah Giroux clutch outfield throw in the 4th preserves 2-1 Garner win at Durham Jordan. Giroux outfield peg at home with bases loaded ends the Jordan threat for inning ending DP. Malik Stephens RBI single plates Graham Wilkins and Noah Gallogly hustles home a Falcons error for the ultimate game-winning run. Wheeler pitches four strong innings before giving way to Dillon Mull who pitches a scoreless inning of relief. Gallogly finishes up with two scoreless innings for the save and Garner win streak reaches six as they improve to 14-7. The 6-game win streak, most since 2015 squad that reached the NCHSAA 3rd round. GNRC showdown week with co-leader Rolesville, as both teams are 9-3, with games Tuesday and Thursday 4PM each day.

Trojan lacrosse 3-game win streak ends at Heritage in season finale. Aaron Roberts records a hat trick for second straight night & super senior Bailey Benjamin tallies his final Garner goal in 17-4 loss, Garner played 3 games in 3 days. Coach Burch squad with a program high 6 wins this season.

Trojans sweep the Wildcats

Lady Trojan softball comes from behind for the 14th straight win in 12-6 win over GNRC foe W.Johnston. Garner trails 6-1 in the 4th before mounting their rally with 11 runs in the final three innings to stay unbeaten in the conference. Ashton Thomas 3-3 with 3RBI, senior Libby Bynum 3-4, 3RBI, Mikayla Brumbles 3-4 with 2RBI’s leads the Trojans to the win and sweep of the Wildcats. George Mason commit Kira Jackson, Haleigh Joyner, and Ashton Harris have an RBI each as Garner plates +10 runs for the school record 15th time in 18 games.
